Generalized System of Preferences (GSP)
Has been renewed effective 8/6/02
The GSP has been renewed retroactively.
The trade act of 2002 was signed by the President on 8/6/02. Title XLI of the act provides for the
extension of the GSP through December 31, 2006.
Merchandise entered, withdrawn from warehouse for consumption on or after August 6, are
entitled to duty free treatment.
Entries of merchandise that would have qualified for duty free treatment under GSP made after
9/30/01 and before 8/6/02 will be liquidated or reliquidated free of duty, and Customs will
issue a refund of duty plus interest.
Entries filed with the special program indicator "A" will automatically be refunded.
Entries filed manually or that have been previously liquidated, must request a refund in writing stating
the Trade Act of 2002, Section 4101 (b)(2).
Automatic refunds should be recieved within 12 weeks. If refunds are not recived by this time,
please contact out office, so we may proceed with other measures. The deadline for requesting
refunds is February, 2, 2003.
