Don’t Cry For the Horses

Don't cry for the horses that life has set free
a million white horses forever to be.
Don't cry for the horses now in God's hand
as they dance and they prance in a heavenly band.
They were ours as a gift, but never to keep
as they close their eyes forever to sleep.
Their spirits unbound. On silver wings they fly
a million white horses against the blue sky.
Look up into heaven, you'll see them above-
the horses we lost, the horses we loved.
Manes and tails flowing they gallop through time.
They were never yours-they were never mine.
Don't cry for the horses. They will be back someday.
When our time is gone, they will show us the way.
Do you hear that soft nicker? Close to your ear?
Don't cry for the horses. Love the ones that are here.

SkyHigh Mr Borr 1975 Polish Arabian

Passed away January 10, 1990

Borr was my very first horse. As a child he was my
best friend and confidant. He stuck right beside me
even when I did the stupid, wreck less things that
we do in our youth. He was the light of my life, and
he brought meaning and purpose to my life when I
thought there was none. I attribute almost all I have
accomplished to the lessons he taught me.
When he left this world suddenly, I was literally
shattered. Through his memory and God's help I
was shown that my learning and work was not yet
finished. There is much to be learned and still more
to be accomplished. Not a day goes by that I do
not think of Borr. His memory always brings a
smile to my face. Thank you dear, precious Borr
for all that you have given me. May I see you
again one day.

Avalon
RR Sahara Sands
Grey Polish Arabian
May 14th, 1980 - April 7th, 2004

It is with a very sad and heavy heart that I tell you all that my dear, beloved Avalon has passed on. He passed fairly quiet Wednesday afternoon of renal failure. By the time we realized what was going on it was already too late and all I could do was ease his pain as best as possible. Avalon would have been 24 on May 14th.

I don't want you to remember his death though, I want his life to be remembered. So I thought I would let you know what his life was and how many people he had touched along the way.

I purchased Avalon, a.k.a. RR Sahara Sands, 19 years ago for a lot of money LOL. The first horse I ever financed and my Dad thought I was nuts, but he was worth every penny and then some. If I had to do it all over again, I would without a second thought. When he came to me he had already passed his 3rd level dressage test. He became my Hunt Seat horse and Hunter Hack horse and won titles and ribbons galore. We then did Western Pleasure for two years and he excelled there as well. He has always been shown in trail class, and even though he thought there were water monsters waiting to eat him, he always went through the obstacle with little fuss. He took a 4-H youth who begged to borrow him, to the State 4-H show at the age of 9 and won and broke the old record in barrel racing. He also won key hole, and placed 4th in pole bending. When he was ten, I decided we should do some endurance and competitive trail rides, he was always in the top ten. He never gave up not once. I had Zared, my son and decided to take a break from showing. Avalon was the first horse my children and husband ever rode. We did some judged pleasure trail rides where again he was always ranked in the top numbers. Av, became my lesson horse at the age of 11 and has taught to this date 48 children and adults, how to ride and become better horsemen and was shown by several of them. During this time, Zared began showing him at local shows and always was in the ribbons. Jeff and I also continued to game him, keyhole being his best class. When Av was 19, I felt we should do some reining, since I was and still am learning it. That year he won the Reserve Champion Reining title with a local club.

More important than all this, was he was the best damn' friend anyone could ever have. He always let me know exactly how he felt, and was always ready to go when I asked. He enjoyed trail riding the most I think, he never wanted to be done with the ride. He never once complained, well maybe once at a show, when he decided he really did like Malarky and could not be parted from him for more than a second. Always though, he was my teacher, friend and partner for almost two decades.

I guess the one thing I would like you all to remember about him is his heart. He had a lot to go around and was always willing to give more.

And if anyone ever tells you Arabians are flaky, fruit loopy, skitsy idiots, tell them about Avalon. He has proved to many that Arabians are probably the most intelligent breed and smarter than most people, well at least the ones that think they are idiots.

Thank you dear Av, for all that you have given me, for the neck to cry into and the eyes to see into my soul. Take care of dear Borr and we will meet again one day. I am forever thankful for The Dance that you and I shared. I would do it all over again if it meant just one more day with you.

Love, Me
